Ambulance LTD is an indie rock group formed in Spanish Harlem, New York in 2000. The band was founded by singer and guitarist Michael Di Liberto and Dave Longstreth of Ohio. They were joined by Marcus Congleton who brought in Andrew Haskell (keyboards) Aaron Nevezie (bass), and Darren Beckett (drums). After the two left the band they were replaced by Benji Lysaght (guitar) and later Matt Dublin (bass). They signed to TVT Records after getting positive reviews from their live shows and recorded a self-titled album LP in 2004.
They mix the genres of dream pop, indie rock and the British shoegazing movement of the late 80's and early 90's. Their influences range from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones to Spiritualized, My Bloody Valentine, and Elliott Smith. Their style is a mix of different genres, and the band has said that "their niche is not sticking to any particular niche" and that they don't want to be stuck in any sub-genre of rock.
A new EP, titled New English EP was released in March 2006. Benji Lysaght, Matt Dublin and Darren Beckett left to form a band called The Red Romance with the addition of Adam Chilensk on bass.
Recently the rest of the group decided they did not want to carry on with the band, though Congleton continued with Ambulance LTD. He's still working with The Velvet Underground's John Cale in LA writing new material. In 2008, Ambulance LTD gained new members Ian Fenger on guitar, Xander McMahon on keyboard and Jeremy Kay on bass. They went on tour in early April 2008 with their first performance at Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge, MA on April 2. Congleton has recorded several songs with John Cale in LA in 2006, none of which have officially surfaced.
In 2004, their song "Stay Tuned" was used in the opening credits of the film "P.S." [1] In 2008, their song "Heavy Lifting" was featured in a scene of the feature film Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
