[edit] History
[edit] Early years

Hailing from Hoylake (The Wirral, on Merseyside) in England, these three boys spent 3 years learning their craft as part of The Little Flames, touring with bands like The Coral, The Zutons and most notably, Arctic Monkeys.

It was during this time supporting Arctic Monkeys, inspired by their maverick DIY spirit and refusal to comprise, the three youngest Flames decided it was time to trust their hearts and their instincts and go it alone.
[edit] Formation

In September, 2006 they began jamming and writing new material as a three piece and there was born The Rascals. The Rascals were immediately signed to Deltasonic Records and played their first gig supporting Arctic Monkeys at Cardiff International Arena in June 2007.

"The Flames was a boss band, it was a great opportunity and we learned loads," says Miles, "but the time was right to move on. When you've got it, you have to do it or else you'll explode. The thing with the Flames was getting thinner and The Rascals was getting bigger. It just got to the point where we couldn't not do it. It just felt right".[2]
[edit] Initial releases
Main article: Out of Dreams

They released their debut EP, Out of Dreams, on December 9, 2007, which contains their fist single also called Out Of Dreams.

Then, in February 18 of 2008, they released a single, called Suspicious Wit, containing three new songs.
[edit] Rascalize (2008)
Main article: Rascalize

Rascalize, their debut album, was released in 23 June of 2008 (first released on iTunes on June 15, 2008) and sees the band play a brand of raucous British indie rock inspired by the sounds of the 1960s as well as contemporaries such as Arctic Monkeys, The Coral and The Zutons.

The album's sound is also being compared with a dark-psycho style and also with Scott Walker.

All the songs of the album Rascalize are created by them, the songs are played by all the members: "It's a good taster for people, it’s a bit unique to us," explains Miles. "It feels like a song that could only be created by us, not one else is writing songs like that. It’s a big filthy tune, so it was a good choice for the first proper single." [2]

The first single for this album, Freakbeat Phantom was released on September 29 of 2008.
[edit] Appearance in Awaydays

The Rascals perform a cover version of All That Jazz, originally by Echo & The Bunnymen in the film Awaydays[3], based on the book by Kevin Sampson, which was released in cinemas nationwide on May 22.

The track is available on the soundtrack which was released on May 18, 2009.
[edit] Miles Kane quits

On August 24 of 2009, Miles Kane, the lead singer of the band, confirmed to NME.COM that he has quit The Rascals.[4]

Miles Kane is currently writing new material and has been in the studio recording some tracks by himself. Greg Mighall and Joe Edwards are working on a film project with 'Awaydays' star Liam Boyle.

He will now work on a solo project, and The Rascals will not continue. But statement said the band would seek a new singer.[1]
[edit] Conflicts with the name

There is also an American band with the same name, but it was unintentionally "copied".

Miles tells in several interviews how when the boys were in The Little Flames they were "right stoners" and would often be called "you little rascals".
[edit] Membership

The trio consists of:

* Miles Kane — guitar, vocals
* Joe Edwards — bass, vocals
* Greg Mighall — drums
